Le Gouvernement de Tony Blair cherche-t-il à étouffer l'affaire Lloyd's?
Nous retransmettons le texte original que nous avons reçu de Liz Sugg:
British Government Seeks to Censor
Commission Files on Lloyd's
The British Government has written (again) to the European Commission seeking
to block public access to any files that relate to the Commission's reasons
for dropping its infringement actions against Britain for failing to regulate
Lloyd's of London.
Mr John Grant, the British Permanent Representative, has sent an unprecedented
letter seeking an almost total ban on Commission disclosure of any relevant
paper. He said, " there is no overriding public interest in disclosure."
The European Parliament's rapporteur for the Lloyd's Petitions, Roy Perry
said:
"At a stroke, the British Government has destroyed its reputation - if
it had one -for openness. They clearly believe in transparency when they have
nothing to hide. It is quite clear with the regulation of Lloyd's of London
that the British Government is engaged in a massive cover-up.
I have asked to inspect the few documents that they will allow to see the
light of day, but my own view is that the sooner we get this to the European
Court of Justice, the sooner we might learn the truth."
